Usually, strong emotions come and go, and normal physiological equilibrium is restored. But when emotional stressors endure for long periods of time, they can tip the balance of chemicals in brain and body and affect your health, often for the worse.


About this series: Each lesson plan provides both a physical focus, to guide your choice of postures, and a practice focus, to help students explore an important principle of yoga practice. Every day of your life, you are forming, changing or reinforcing your attitude. Your attitude determines your approach to life and defines your relationships with other people. It can also mean the difference between success and failure, since a positive perspective can turn your problems into blessings. There are three critical steps in changing your attitude: First, develop gratitude; next, lead others by serving; and finally, learn how to face your fears so you can accomplish what you want to in life.


Food. It gives fuel for activities, provides necessary nutrients to help maintain healthy body processes and is even a source of pleasure and social delight. When eaten in excess, even the most nutritious food can contribute to unwanted weight gain and disease risk. When there’s not enough of it to consume, the deprivation can cause malnutrition and disease.
